Volunteers Required for Reopening of the Temple

The Government announced on 7 June that places of worship will be permitted to open for individual prayer in line with social distancing guidelines from 15 June.

The temple committee agreed that the Temple should be opened from 6th July (further information on the Temple opening times will be issued nearer the time), giving us time to clean the Temple and put in place measures and procedures for social distancing and hygiene.

For this to happen the Temple needs volunteers to help with the cleaning of the Temple. If two or more people from same household can come together, it would be even better as this would ease the social distancing restrictions. The main tasks are:

  • Cleaning the kitchen (and fridge) and take stock of all grocery items.
  • Cleaning windowsills, walls and surfaces.
  • Cleaning all tables.
  • Clearing all cupboards of old items no longer required.
  • Steam cleaning carpets.
  • Cleaning Gandhi Hall.
  • Cleaning outside of the Temple - remove all weeds and grass.
  • Changing waghas (weekend of 4/5 July).
  • If time permits, paint the main hall and Gandhi Hall (can be done during weekdays).

For the cleaning of the kitchen, we are looking for ladies who have previously worked in the kitchen to help with tidying up and sorting out all cooking items (groceries, spices etc) and disposing all items that may have been contaminated. We want this done over the weekend of 20/21 June. If you are free and are able to help, please call Ilaben Shrimanker (0770 953 8585).

The rest we plan to carry out over the weekends of 20/21, 27/28 June and 4/5 July. If you are able to help please email me secretary@hindutemplebristol.co.uk specifying which day(s) you are able to and your telephone number.

The painting of the Main Hall and the Gandhi Hall can be carried out during weekdays. Again, please let me know if can help with this.

If you or anyone in your household is not well or showing coronavirus symptoms, or self-isolating, for example if you have been contacted as part of the test and trace programme, please do not offer to help.

We will limit the number of people helping with the above tasks to ensure that the social distancing guidelines are met and those asked to help will be given instructions on what protective measures they should take. We want to ensure everyone's safety.

Thank you

Nalin Parekh

Why not come in for a guided tour to look around the Temple and learn about many Hindu Gods/Deities? The Panditji (our priest) will be glad to show you around during the opening hours. Students are very welcome. The temple is open for school visits on weekdays between by prior appointment.
